OFFERING PAIN SOLUTIONS

Osteopathy by John Sawrey-Cookson is unique in that you can get diagnosis, treatment and recovery from one person who is responsble for your journey from injury to full health.

OSTEOPATHY
Osteopathy is a form of manual medicine that focuses primarily on diagnosing and treating problems with the musculoskeletal system.
Manual medicine means that both a diagnosis and treatment are achieved through non-invasive means – so no surgery or medication. Instead an osteopath practitioner will detect the cause of your problem by analysing the way your body moves, by both a visual assessment and by touch.
Through massage, movement and manipulation, your osteopath will work to rebalance the structure and function of the body; not simply treating the presenting problem, but looking holistically at all the factors that have contributed towards your symptoms.
Treatment will aim to relieve pain, improve function and promote healing. It will also help to reduce the likelihood of the problem recurring. Your osteopath will explain their findings to you, so you can understand why your body has not been healing of its own accord.

ABOUT NECK-RELATED ARM PAIN

No other spine problem gives more clinical challenge than neck, shoulder and arm pain (radiculopathy). The cause of arm pain (aka cervical spine radiculopathy) is most commonly a herniated cervical disc, degenerative disc disease resulting in spinal stenosis, or a combination of the two problems. Arm pain radiculopathy follows the course of a spinal nerve in the cervical spine / neck that is compressed or chemically inflamed. Knowing the where the arm pain is in the arm and/or hand/fingers directs the doctor to the identity of the level of the spine where the problem starts.
